The primary aim of the West Green Playgroup is to provide quality Early Years education and care to all children within the community.
We aim to provide a fulfilling and stimulating environment both indoors and out to encourage children’s learning and promote their all-round development.
We value the rich variety of cultures that our children represent and we welcome and encourage active participation of parents/carers in all aspects of the Playgroup.
Play underpins the EYFS. It also underpins learning and all aspects of children’s development. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. For most children their play is natural and spontaneous although some children may need extra help from adults. Play takes place indoors and outdoors and it is in these different environments that children explore and discover their immediate world. It is here they practise new ideas and skills, they take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others. The role that adults have is crucial. Adults provide time and space and appropriate resources. These might include clothes, boxes, buckets, old blankets that will inspire play and fire children’s imaginations. They observe play and join in when invited, watching and listening before intervening. They value play and provide safe but challenging environments that support and extend learning and development.
Our mission at West Green Playgroup is to focus on the whole child, providing quality education and care for our children between the ages of 2 and 4 years old.
We provide a safe nurturing environment that our children and families feel welcome and comfortable in.
Our professionally trained staff guide our children in their learning and development.
We believe in letting the children create their curriculum based on their interests and their environment, which our staff will help them build on by giving support and guidance for ideas and resources.
We believe that parents / carers / guardians / family and community have the most influence in a child’s life. We view parents as our partners in their children’s education.
Our most important goal is to provide the children the opportunity to succeed.
We believe that children are little miracles.
We believe that children need to be safe, safe to explore their world and try new things.
They need to feel nurtured.
They need to know that they are special and unique.
Their feelings count, their sadness is comforted, their joy is shared and their accomplishments praised.
Children need to be stimulated academically.
They need an age/stage appropriate curriculum, which will allow them to be successful.
They need opportunities to express their creativity.
Children are social and as they move from parallel play to co-operative play they need guidance towards socially acceptable behavior.
Children need to be children and need to play and pretend and embrace this wonderful stage in their lives.
