Welcome to West Green Playgroup

OUR AIM

The primary aim of the West Green Playgroup is to provide quality Early Years education and care for all children within the community.

We aim to provide a fulfilling and stimulating environment both indoors and out to encourage children’s learning and promote their all-round development.

We value the rich variety of cultures that our children represent and we welcome and encourage active participation of parents/carers in all aspects of the Playgroup.

The Importance of Play

Play underpins the EYFS. It also underpins learning and all aspects of children’s development. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills. For most children their play is natural and spontaneous although some children may need extra help from adults. Play takes place indoors and outdoors and it is in these different environments that children explore and discover their immediate world. It is here they practise new ideas and skills, they take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others. The role that adults have is crucial. Adults provide time and space and appropriate resources. These might include clothes, boxes, buckets, old blankets that will inspire play and fire children’s imaginations. They observe play and join in when invited, watching and listening before intervening. They value play and provide safe but challenging environments that support and extend learning and development.

Our Mission Statement

We have developed a guiding set of principles and aspirations for what we want to achieve at West Green Playgroup, and they are defined in our Mission, Vision, and Aims statements below.

OUR MISSION

West Green Playgroup is a free flow setting. We believe the children are our curriculum and strive to empower our children to take on the world with curiosity, confidence, and positivity.

OUR VISION
We will strive to meet our mission statement by focusing on three themes.

Understanding the world
We will give our children the opportunity to learn about their environment and the natural world. They will learn to understand their role in shaping the world around them and develop a greater understanding of their local community.

Understanding ourselves
With fun and happiness at the core of everything we do at playgroup. We will help the children to understand and manage their own emotions through role play, books, and interactive learning.

Understanding our health and wellbeing
We will promote good health through healthy eating and drinking and give an understanding of the importance and enjoyment of exercise. This will be achieved through the children’s interests and our daily routine.

OUR AIMS

  • We will strive to instil independence, self-confidence, and a love of playing and learning.
  • We will endeavour to provide a happy and relaxed atmosphere where children can have fun, make friends, and learn.
  • We will provide a friendly and welcoming environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, and intellectually within the context of play, both independently and with others.
  • We will establish a close working relationship with parents/carers and within the local community.
  • We will develop our staff team, resources and methods making changes as required to ensure we progress successfully into the future.
  • We will ensure equality of access regardless of social or economic background.
